Founded in 1938 in the town of Asolo in Northern Italy, S.C.A.R.P.A (an acronym in Italian for the Association of Footwear Manufacturers from Asolo) was an amalgamation of local artisan makers of mountain boots. Run by the Parisotto family since 1956, Scarpa has wide-ranging experience in the design of outdoor footwear, with current models ranging through rock shoes, high-altitude mountaineering boots, Telemark and ski-mountaineering boots, trail-running footwear as well as regular walking boots and shoes.
Scarpa footwear represents the ideal marriage of craftsmanship and technology. Having over 50 years experience of dealing and negotiating with tanneries they secure the finest leathers and meticulously select the hides they use in their leather walking and mountain boots. Working exclusively with the world's leading sole manufacturers (Vibram® and Skywalk®) they use soles that will meet different requirements and performance characteristics. They develop a last to specifically suit the end use of each boot. Additionally, Scarpa were the first company to develop a purpose made last for women's boots.
Another brand that has been in Open Air since our inception in 1990, we stock rock shoes, walking boots and shoes, and mountaineering boots from Scarpa. Some of their models are chosen by us for their more traditional-Italian slimmer, lower-volume fit, but this doesn’t constitute all they do by any means; there will be models that suit the slightly wider-fitting foot. Many of the Scarpa models we sell can be resoled.
