Osprey was founded in California in 1974 by Mike Pfotenhauer at the seat of a single sewing machine. With a head full of ideas and a desire to design and build innovative backpacks to the highest quality, Mike starts to manufacture custom made technical backpacks. Over the years, breathable mesh panel comes to life, women's specific packs are introduced, ErgoPull hipbelt sets a new standard for backpack hipbelts and custom moulding hipbelt technology is introduced to add even more hip and lumbar comfort. In 2007, the award-winning Talon series is launched and goes on to become one of the leading pack designs in the world.
Today, Osprey packs and bags are being used on the highest mountains to the remotest islands and everywhere in between.
To protect the very environment that their packs are designed for, Osprey only designs and builds high quality products that last a long time, and tries to minimise the quantity of material that goes to landfill. All their products are covered under their All Mighty Guarantee - they always strive, whenever possible, to repair products rather than replace them. Furthermore, the SecondLife programme refurbishes pre loved packs and puts them back into the hands of new adventurers.
Osprey have maintained a long-term partnership with the European Outdoor Conservation Association as a member and sponsor of several initiatives across Europe and worldwide. From clearing man-made structures from mountainous habitats to bird of prey conservation efforts, they are always looking for more ways to protect the environments for future generations to enjoy.
