In 1919 Hans Deuter, already well known as a manufacturer of sailcloth and blankets, started manufacturing suitcases, backpacks, tents and truck canopies, going on to supply explorer Willi Rickmer on his expedition to the remote areas of Pamir. By the 1970s deuter were supplying almost every German lead expedition and was being recognised as the leading manufacturer of backpacks, suitcases and bags in Germany.Over the decades deuter have continued to innovate; introducing Nylon fabrics in 1968 and AirComfort vented back systems in 1985. In 9090, soon after the development team expands to include mountain bikers, the first bike backpack is designed. New lines continue to be added, including sleeping bags child carriers and SL range designed by a team of female athletes.
