Stories from the Open Airers: Summer 2021

This summer, we wanted to celebrate exploration once more! In what has been known as the year of Staycations, across our team, we’ve safely travelled the length and breadth of the country as restrictions open once more and we can begin exploring the beauty of the British countryside! If you’re either looking to start planing your next summer adventure, or are looking for some inspiration for your next roadtrip, these are some fantastic suggestions. Here’s what just a few members of the Open Air team have been up to! Hannah... Read More

Take A Tour Of The New Open Air Store!

It’s finally here and we’re thrilled to be able to shout it from the rooftops…The New Open Air Fitting Store is here! We’re thrilled to now showcase our new footwear, pole and pack fitting space (located at No.28 Green Street, Cambridge) with you and would love to explain a little more about the changes to our services. Our New And Improved Footwear Service

At Open Air, our goal has always been “To inspire and help more people to enjoy the Outdoors, sustainably and responsibly”. It is that vision that drives our team and everything we do. For us, the outdoors is about so much more than selling a product such as a jacket or pair of boots, it’s a lifestyle, a pursuit of passion that results in truly life-changing experiences and life-long memories.  Over the past year, there have been plenty of challenges for us in achieving this vision. From having to close... Read More

Happy New Year!

We’re excited to be looking forward to 2021, and have a whole host of seriously exciting plans in the works, which we can’t wait to share soon. Whilst COVID-19 may have been the biggest story of 2020, there were still plenty of ups as well as (lock)downs, so here’s a quick look back at a few of our highlights from our year. We’ve always been proud of our independence, and keen to take advantage of this when selecting the ranges we stock. In late 2019, we were excited to welcome... Read More

Introducing Open Air’s New Remote Services

Over the summer we’ve developed more online content, and introduced remote services, such as our remote footwear fitting service, to benefit those who can’t make it into our Cambridge store, or prefer not to, for whatever reason. Our customer services heroes are still here to answer your emails and live chats, and take your calls, but we’re getting ever busier with more in-depth enquiries, so we’ve introduced these services to give more time to respond to those. We aim to give you a taste of our in-store experience, and let... Read More

Business Not As Usual

It’s safe to say this isn’t quite how we imagined celebrating Open Air’s 30th birthday. In line with the government’s latest announcement of a new lockdown period, our physical Cambridge stores are now closed until December, except for customers collecting Click & Collect orders. But don’t despair, as our Leki and Open Air web stores remain fully open for business, where you can find our full range of products, and benefit from our fast and efficient dispatch. Not only that, we’re also upping our game by making a wider range... Read More

Meet the Open Airists: Carenza

Been with us since she could start working; introducing climber and mountaineer Carenza! Hi, I’m Carenza and I’ve been working at Open Air for a little over 3 years. In the shop, you’ll find me fitting shoes or talking about the details of equipment – I’ll happily talk for hours about the finer points of climbing gear. Outside the shop however, I am normally busy studying for university or out in the mountains. Most of my trips are based around bouldering, but I am also a keen mountaineer. I have... Read More

Meet the Open Airists: Jo

Introducing another of our long time part-timers; Walker Jo! Hello there! I’m Jo and I’ve been working at Open Air for coming up 3 years. I started off working in the main shop as a member of Saturday staff while finishing school, but am now most often found in the basement, packing and dispatching online orders during my university holidays. I am a keen camper and walker and spent 4 years as an Explorer Scout before joining the OA team. Last summer I was able to spend 2 months teaching... Read More

Meet the Open Airists: Hector

This week it’s Fellrunner and climber Hector. Hi, I’m Hector. I’ve worked at Open Air for the past 3 years. I started at the shop working weekends whilst at college, and now work on the shop floor over my university holidays. I work all round the shop, but am most at home in the boot shop, or selling more technical climbing and hiking gear in our main store.  I’d like to think I am an outdoor enthusiast, a keen trail-runner, climber and hiker. In the UK my go-to destination would... Read More
